BA (Hons) Fine Art

Overview

You will learn to develop your understanding and relationships with regional and national organisations and practitioners as well as opportunities to engage with regional and national galleries and museums including KARST, Ocean Studios, Plymouth Arts Cinema, The Box Plymouth, Tate St Ives, Newlyn Gallery and The Exchange, Cornwall. You also have opportunities to take part in regular visits and trips, including to national and international art fairs, galleries and artists’ studios and projects.

Recent international trips have included Berlin and the Venice Biennale. In addition, a visiting artist programme supports the progression and development of our students, creating strong regional and national links to professional partners and institutions, through residencies and exhibition projects that provide professional and graduate opportunities. As a student on this course, you will have opportunities to work with brands and companies such as KARST, The Box, Sprite Arts Collective, Plymouth Culture Meanwhile Use, RAAM, Heart for Art, Stoke Village Hub, MIRROR gallery, WonderZoo, Yourway Project, Make Tank, Tate Exchange. Graduates become professional artists, curators, artists’ assistants, arts facilitators, exhibition organisers, arts administrators, lecturers and teachers, art conservators and framers, art handlers, community artists, gallery owners and more. Graduates from our Fine Art course regularly go on to land residences and exhibition opportunities at some of the UK’s most exciting contemporary art spaces – including KARST, Tate Exchange and Ocean Studios.

Our Graduates

Leah Jordan

Leah Jordan is an artist specialising in ceramic and textile sculpture exploring the internal landscape of the body. Her work celebrates the functionality of the body and the organs that work unconsciously to keep the body machine alive. Leah also practices pottery and wheel throwing alongside her fine art practice and works as a volunteer in the ceramics department at Arts University Plymouth. She completed a Masters in Fine Art in 2022, and a BA (Hons) Fine Art in 2019 with a First Class Honours. She has exhibited her work in the UK and Hong Kong.

Molly Erin McCarthy

Molly Erin McCarthy, a.k.a molmor / mol, is an artist and streamer who graduated from BA Fine Art in 2020. She works across sculpture, installation and interactive mediums to explore how we form, and are formed by, the physical and philosophical landscapes we reside in. While at Workroom Molly will be exploring how to create better synergy between her artistic practice and freelance work, aiming to share and collaborate with other residents and identify new and exciting ways to be a creative entrepreneur.

Ashanti Hare

Ashanti Hare is a fine artist combining digital manipulation, folk craftmanship and writing. They explore the simplistic and powerful marriage of the daily rituals of human life and the intentionality within spiritual practices in sensory experiences that include tactility, scent and sound.Ashanti graduated BA (Hons) Fine Art in 2022 with a First Class Honours and also took home the Platform Graduate Award in 2022. After her studies she worked as a social media manager for in house gallery MIRROR, interned at local gallery KARST, had a residency with Southcombe Gallery and has since had commissions from RAMM and MIRROR.
