Mark Gray
Member of Finance & Estates Committee

Mark pursued a conventional academic career in economics after an undergraduate degree in History and a PhD in economics and economic history, both at Cambridge. He taught at Heriot-Watt and Edinburgh universities in Scotland before joining the Cabinet Office as an Economic Advisor - where in addition to providing economic advice to ministers and departments, he ran a tripartite MBA and coordinated CPD for all of his fellow economists in Whitehall.

He then took up the role of Director of CPD at Oxford University, and served as a Fellow of Kellogg College - both connected with Oxford's lifelong learning mission. Both experiences left him with a passionate commitment to accessible learning and the opportunities of the 'second chance'.

Moving to Middlesex University to coordinate and run its CPD offer, Mark quickly found himself engaged in coordinating all forms of knowledge exchange across the university, and built a team dedicated to providing academic staff and students with excellent support to do it. He played key roles in two REF exercises at Middlesex, and as PVC Knowledge Exchange and CPD played a significant role in shaping the university's knowledge exchange mission in all areas - from public engagement to spinout.
